End of Lease Inspections

wear-and-tear-inspectionChipsAway can perform end of lease inspections for your peace of mind. This will help to avoid what can be a particularly stressful and potentially expensive event…. handing your car back at the end of it’s contract. Your ChipsAway Telford and ChipsAway Wolverhampton specialist have attended a BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) presentation on the application of their industry wide Fair Wear and Tear Standard.

The standard is applied by all major vehicle leasing and rental companies in Britain and is something that we have many years of experience in.  We are therefore ideally placed to advise you on how to avoid unnecessary charges when approaching the end of your vehicle lease. End of lease inspections is a service we have pioneered both locally and regionally. We have successfully supported many companies with fleets of lease vehicles for over a decade.

“Fair wear and tear occurs when normal usage causes acceptable deterioration to a vehicle.  It should not be confused with damage, which occurs as a result of a specific event or series of events such as impacts, careless stowing of items, harsh treatment, negligent acts or omissions.”

During your end of lease inspection, any damage that in our opinion is identified as being outside of the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Standard will be advised to you along with the appropriate repair methods.  ChipsAway is able to complete most of these repairs – usually in less than a day and at up to 50% less than the cost of a traditional bodyshop.

We inspect the condition of the vehicle bodywork, interior, glass and wheels/trims.  All other elements of the vehicle condition should be inspected independently.

There exists an element of subjectivity in any assessment of vehicle condition.  Hence we have put together the following classification based upon our understanding and years of experience of applying the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Standard.

  1. Essential Repair – this damage is beyond the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Standard and must be rectified to avoid charges.
  2. Desireable Repair – this damage might be considered “light” or “minor” or otherwise as permitted wear and tear but a lease company might still assess it as chargeable.
  3. Fair Wear & Tear – This damage is within the BVRLA Wear & Tear Standard and should not result in a charge.

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you book your ChipsAway End of lease inspection approximately 10 weeks before the vehicle is due for return.  Please contact the Telford Branch on 01952 677785 in the first instance and make sure you tell us that your vehicle is a lease car approaching end of lease and we will do the rest.

The vehicle to be inspected should be supplied clean (inside and out), recently washed, dry and in daylight hours.  If it is not presented in this manner, ChipsAway will proceed with the end of lease inspection as far as possible in the circumstances.  However, the effectiveness of the inspection will be limited and regrettably, no discount or refund will be available.  Where damage is identified as requiring repair, ChipsAway will be pleased to quote for the repairs whilst the vehicle is still in your custody.  All ChipsAway repairs come with a life time of ownership guarantee (see our terms and conditions).  There will be no charge for the initial inspection where the repairs that are identified are repaired by ChipsAway Telford and ChipsAway Wolverhampton.  The inspection service will be charged for at the current rate at the time of inspection.  The inspection charge will then be discounted from the invoice once the repairs are completed.

Where requested, we will provide an End of Lease Condition Certificate on conclusion of the repairs.   We will undertake the inspection strictly in accordance with our understanding of the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Standard.  A leasing company or their inspecting agents will also reach their own judgement based on the condition of the vehicle when subsequently presented to them.  Any undue charges on a vehicle inspected by us is unlikely, however specific returns policy details should be checked separately.

In addition to this, please see the following document regarding end of lease inspections and how you can further avoid hefty charges when returning your car.
